Will You Receive a Louisiana Assessment Notice in 2023?

Jurisdictions across the state of Louisiana have an annual assessment review period, and notices of assessment increases are typically sent prior to the assessment roll’s opening. Orleans Parish is under a parish-wide state-mandated revaluation this year.
The assessment roll of each parish is published annually during a period known as “open rolls.” This annual review occurs for a brief two-week period, except for Orleans Parish, which is open for 30 days. Orleans Parish is open from July 15 to August 15, with the other parishes of the state opening for two weeks, generally sometime between August 15 and September 15 each year. It is during this open roll period that taxpayers can review their assessments and discuss changes with the assessor. Any unresolved informal discussions can be carried forward by filing a formal appeal to the local Board of Review (BOR) within three days after the rolls close. The assessors then must certify the assessments lists to the local BOR. The BOR hearings for each parish are conducted in September.
