Will You Receive a Louisiana Assessment Notice in 2024?

The Louisiana State Constitution requires that every assessor conducts a comprehensive reevaluation of all properties within their parish at least once every four years. This 2024 tax year, all parishes are undergoing a mandatory revaluation. Orleans Parish conducted its revaluation last summer because Orleans taxes are paid at the beginning of the year. The parish assessor will use the new valuation date of January 1, 2024, as the basis for new values. In doing so, they should consider income, cap rates, comparable sales, and cost indices for this valuation date. As expenses continue to rise, the challenge will be to have them consider the increased costs that have occurred since the new valuation date.

The open roll period for each parish only lasts two weeks, except Orleans, from July 15 to August 15. Sometime between August 1 and September 15, the other parishes will have their assessment rolls open for public inspection. At that time, a review with the Assessor’s Office can take place. It is essential to carefully review your assessment notices when you receive them to ensure accuracy.
