Jeff Nolan, a Ryan principal and an Air Force and Army National Guard veteran, teamed together on a pro-bono basis to work with a 70-year-old veteran who had been denied on his request for the renewal of the Senior Property Tax Valuation Freeze by the Maricopa County Assessor’s Office. Jeff has spent the last 31 years representing Arizona taxpayers with property tax issues, specializing in organization exemption issues.
Jeff had read about Duane Loftus, a 70-year-old veteran, who was having difficulties with the assessor’s office regarding the renewal application for his Senior Property Tax Valuation Freeze. Jeff was compelled to reach out to Duane and offer some guidance on a pro-bono basis to see if there was any remedy. Jeff worked with Duane to provide guidance and suggestions on how to approach the assessor’s office regarding the initial denial of the application.
Robert Pizorno, Organizational Exemptions Supervisor, with the Maricopa County Assessor’s Office, personally reached out to Duane and indicated that the assessor’s office had reconsidered his application and that the assessor was going to reinstate the Senior Property Tax Valuation Freeze.
Duane is not a shy one; he sent in a second Letter to the Editor to let the public know that his application had been approved, and his 2019 tax bill had been corrected to reflect the Senior Property Tax Valuation Freeze.
Tim Boncoskey, Chief Deputy Assessor with the Maricopa County Assessor’s Office and the current President of the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO), was very quick to post the article on social media. Tim had thanked both Jeff and the assessor’s staff for their efforts in this matter and pointing out that “the Maricopa County Assessor has corrected and got it right for this property owner!”
“I was just a veteran helping out another veteran with a senior valuation property tax issue. Robert Pizorno and his team at the Maricopa County Assessor’s office did all of the heavy lifting to get the correction done. It was my pleasure to assist Duane with this assessment issue.”
